Hopkins runs down the field with the ball in a home game at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Hopkins worked hard on and off the field. “D-Hop’s a special guy because of his competitive nature, his work ethic,” said John Perry, one of the DeAndre’s coaches. Hopkins watched videotapes of plays to help him improve. He became the first receiver in NFL history to catch 110 passes with 0 drops. “He has the best hands in the world,” said Perry.

With his acrobatic catches, Hopkins amazed fans and players. They wondered; How did he do that? Hopkins especially appreciated the praise from other players. “I take pride in my work,” he said. “For them to say that, it’s an honor because those guys put in as much work as I do.”

Hopkins also proved his talent by working with nine different starting quarterbacks in just four years. In 2017, the Texans drafted Deshaun Watson as their new quarterback. Hopkins and Watson, who also attended Clemson, quickly became friends and made a tough duo to beat on the field. “D-Hop’s . . . like my brother,” said Watson.

In August 2017, Hopkins signed a five-year contract for $81 million to continue playing for the Texans, making him the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL. Hopkins was also one of the greatest.
